a. LCV: Light Commercial Vehicles
Light commercial vehicles (LCV's) are usually referred to goods and carriage vehicles with a light capacity that varies from one region to another. In Europe the popular definition for a light commercial vehicle is one good vehicle with a maximum permissible capacity of 3.5 tones of mass. The importance of a light commercial vehicle is obvious especially in a newly industrialized economy with large regions to cater where such vehicles play a niche role in transporting goods from one place to another throughout the country.

Containers intended for intercontinental use have external nominal dimensions of:
Length | 9.8125 feet (2.991m) as 10 feet; 19.875 feet (6.058m) as 20 feet; 29.9375 feet (9.125m) as 30 feet; and 40 feet (12.192m) |
Width | 8 feet (2.438m) |
Height | 8.5 feet (2.591m) and 9.5 feet (2.896m) |
All above dimensions have permissible tolerances.
The 20 feet (20') and 40 feet (40') containers are very popular in ocean freight. The 8.5 feet (8.5') high container---8 feet 6 inches (8' 6") high container---is often referred to as standard container.
The demand for the high cube container---hicube---is increasing. The popular high cube container has a normal height of 9.5 feet (9.5' or 9' 6").
There are half height containers (4.25' or 4' 3" high) designed for heavy loads such as steel rods and ingots, which absorb the weight limit in half the normal space.
There are half height containers (4.25' or 4' 3" high) designed for heavy loads such as steel rods and ingots, which absorb the weight limit in half the normal space.
The most widely used type of container is the general purpose (dry cargo) container (please see Container Classifications) having a nominal length and height of 20' x 8.5', 40' x 8.5', and 40' x 9.5'. Referring to the Dimension of General Purpose Containers below, the dimensions shown in the table are not fixed, that is, the external and internal dimensions may vary among containers of the same length and height.
The container capacity is the total cube a container can accommodate. The term cube often refers to the cubic measurement of cargo. The capacity (i.e., the internal volume) is determined by multiplying the internal dimensions, that is, the product of internal length, width and height. The capacity may vary among containers of the same length and height.
Containers, also known as intermodal containers or as ISO containers because the dimensions have been defined by the ISO, are the main type of equipment used in intermodal transport, particularly when one of the modes of transportation is by ship. Containers are eight feet wide by eight feet six inches high. Their length is usually either 20 feet, 40 feet, or 45 feet, although other lengths exist. They are made out of steel and can be stacked on top of each other. They can be carried by truck, rail, container ship, or aeroplane. Steel is a metal alloy whose major component is iron, with carbon being the primary alloying material.
Some variations on the standard container exist. Open-topped versions covered by a fabric curtain are used to transport larger loads. A container called a tanktainer, consisting of a tank fitted inside a standard container, allows liquids to be carried. Refrigerated containers are used for perishables. There is also the swap body, which is typically used for road and rail transport, as they are built too lightly to be stacked. They have folding legs under their frame so that they can be moved between trucks without using a crane. A Swap body is a standard freight container which is usually built too lightly too be stacked, or to be lifted from the top, unlike the more widespread shipping containers. ...
Truck trailers are often used for freight that is transported primarily by road and rail. Typically, regular trailers can be used, and do not need to be specially designed. When travelling by rail, trailers are transported on railway flatcars, an arrangement called "piggyback".

Indian Railways Freight Services are one of the economical ways to carry goods from one place to another, especially, if the quantities of the goods are large. Secondly, the network that the Indian Railways covers is huge. You can even reach the remote places through the railway network.
THE CARRIERS
You can transport a wide range of goods to different places within the country through the Indian Railways Freight Services. There are different types of rakes to carry your goods. A typical full rake consists of 40 BCN wagons (2200t), while the mini rake consists of 20 BCN wagons (1100t). Indian Railways is now concentrating on entire rake assignment, rather than going for small consignments or piecemeal freight, as it doesn't require splitting the wagons going to or coming from different places, and hence is more profitable.
For small consignments, there are "Parcel Vans" which are generally attached to passenger trains. The High-capacity Parcel Vans, known as "Green Parcel Vans" are used to carry fruits and vegetables. These types of parcel vans can carry 23 tones where as the ordinary parcel vans can carry 18t.
Refrigerated Parcel Vans are also available on a few sections. These vans can accommodate 5t of frozen goods at -20 degree Celsius and 12t of chilled goods at 4 degree Celsius.
